Mining magnate W.W. Morris moved from Virginia City, MT to a small log cabin on the banks of North Willow Creek in the late 1800's. As time passed and his family and wealth grew, he continued to add to the property. It has been said that he was able to go to sleep at night listening to the sound of his nearby stamp mill working the ore from his mine. Mr. Morris was also involved in Montana politics and had owned several businesses in Montana. Montana was still a young state at this time; gold had only been found in Virginia City in 1863.
After W.W. Morris' unexpected passing while evaluating a mine for sale in Nevada, the family continued to inhabit the property. By the 1930's the stately home was not being occupied and the family boarded it up, with all the contents inside, and it was ignored until the 1970's. Descendants of the Morris family and parents of the current owners came back to the property and found that it was an amazing time capsule, full of their family's history and belongings. They revitalized it and used it as a summer home and hosted many a party in the ballroom and in the back yard on the creek.
